Help with Les Paul setup?

I've been playing guitar for 3 years. The thing is, I used a fake strat for most of the time. I got myself a Epiphone Les Paul Studio model. Since this guitar seems more important, I figured that I need to learn how to set it up by myself. I kind of figured that the setup will be the same as the Gibsons' too. I dont understand anything about the truss rod being "bowed" or "straight". And I DONT want to bring it to a guitar store. A quick explanation would be nice, or a NOOB video.
